The custom build process

How a machine gets specified here: a conversation about the work, then a parts list with reasons attached.

It does not start with parts

A configurator asks which components you want, which is the wrong question if you do not already know and an unhelpful one if you do. It cannot tell you that the balance is wrong.

We start at the opposite end: the jobs the machine must handle, the behaviours you will not tolerate — noise, heat, a sealed box you cannot add to — and what it may be asked to become before you replace it. Components are the conclusion of that discussion rather than its opening move.

Every choice comes with its reason

A specification you cannot interrogate is one you have to take on trust. Each significant choice is explained, along with where we would spend more if the budget allowed and where we would spend less without you noticing.

That also makes it possible to disagree with us usefully, which is the point of doing this in conversation rather than through a form.

Built and serviced in the same workshop

The machine is assembled at 106 North Woodland Boulevard, DeLand, Florida 32720 and comes back here if anything is wrong. New parts carry a one-year warranty, excluding acts of God, physical damage and neglect. Standard components throughout mean a later fault is a part to replace rather than an assembly to negotiate over.

  • Standard, documented components
  • Assembled and tested before collection
  • Serviced afterwards by the people who built it

Questions

How long does a build take?

It depends on the specification and on parts availability, so we will not put a figure on it before knowing both. Once the specification is agreed we can tell you what to expect.

Can I supply my own parts?

Often, and reusing sound components from an existing machine is sensible. Ask first so compatibility can be checked, and note that parts you supply are not covered by our parts warranty.

What if I change my mind about the specification?

That is what the conversation is for, and it is much easier before assembly than after. Adjusting a proposed specification is normal and expected.
